If you are new to FTP, we recommend that you read our comprehensive guide on getting started with FTP. However, if you only need to change your FTP password, we have a helpful guide available here.
Creating an FTP Account
To create an FTP account, please follow these steps:
- Login to cPanel.
- Navigate to the “FTP Accounts” button located in the “Files” section.
- In the “Add FTP Account” section, fill in the necessary fields. Below is a brief description of each option:
- Login: Enter the desired username. This will be combined with your primary domain name to create the full username (e.g. joeuser@example.com).
- Password: Create a strong password for the account. You can use the “Password Generator” button for assistance or refer to our guide on Password Strength and Security.
- Password (Again): Re-enter the password to confirm spelling.
- Strength: This field indicates the security level of your password, ranging from Very Weak to Very Strong.
- Directory: Specify the directory access for the FTP account. Enter a forward slash (/) for full access or restrict access by specifying a directory such as public_html/username.
- Quota: Optionally, you can set a storage space limit for the FTP account.
- Click the “Create FTP Account” button to finish. You should see a confirmation message stating “Account Created.”
Deleting an FTP Account
- Login to cPanel.
- Navigate to the “FTP Accounts” button located in the “Files” section.
- Find the FTP account you wish to remove and click on the “Delete” button located to the right of it.
